The Samanisky Scholarship Applications


The Samanisky Memorial Scholarships are awarded each year to eligible members of St. Mary's Orthodox Cathedral. The scholarship is in the amount of $1,000 and is awarded in September. The number of scholarships awarded each year vary depending on the amount available in the scholarship fund, this year one scholarship will be awarded. Selection of the winners is made by educators not associated with the Cathedral. The applications are evaluated on the basis of Service to the Church; Character and Leadership; and Academic Achievement as defined below.

SERVICE TO THE CHURCH is defined as any type of stewardship performed for the church, such as participation in activities and organizations and volunteering services for the betterment of St. Mary's Orthodox Cathedral, it's members, it's community and the Orthodox Church in America.

CHARACTER AND LEADERSHIP qualities include good character, good citizenship, and leadership potential that may have been demonstrated in the classroom, in extra-curricular activities, at work, in the church and in the community.

SCHOLARSHIP OR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT shall be defined and an applicant's having achieved scores or grades in school and on standardized tests which show promise of success in accredited school. In the case of graduate students, one recommendation from a person who has worked with the applicant in his/her field of study will suffice.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

1. The applicant must be entering or currently enrolled in a post-secondary program.
2. He or she must have been accepted for enrollment as a full-time student in an institution of higher
learning such as an accredited college, university, community college, business college, industrial,
technical, trade or medical school, or an Orthodox Seminary.
3. The candidate must be a member or the child of a member of St. Mary's Orthodox Cathedral of
Minneapolis as of the deadline for the application.
4. Eligible non-previous recipients will always be given priority to receive the scholarship. If only previous
recipients apply, then the Committee may choose a recipient out of eligible applicants.
5. Applications, transcripts and recommendations must be mailed to the address
below postmarked by Monday, July 15, 2024.
